AFG International

We live in an age where funds may be transferred from jurisdiction to jurisdiction as rapidly as it takes me to speak this sentence.

Ognall J, Re M

The Asset Forfeiture Group at 3PB is acutely aware of the trans-national nature of asset tracing, recovery and confiscation; not least because we regularly deal with cases where there is some form of international dimension, be it off-shore bank accounts, properties owned in foreign jurisdictions, or disputes over proprietary rights.

In recent years the AFG has been involved in external foreign requests for assistance from a range of governments, including Germany, the USA and Macao. It has advised on cases from the Channel Islands to Gibraltar, the Caribbean and beyond.

We offer a range of advisory services for companies and individuals alike who may find themselves caught up in asset recovery and confiscation litigation.

The Caribbean

The AFG at 3PB has enjoyed excellent relations with the Caribbean for a number of years. In 2009 AFG head, Mark Sutherland Williams, undertook a Foreign Office sponsored trip to Barbados and St Lucia to address the judiciary on asset recovery and the money laundering provisions of the UK. He has advised on restraint and property rights in the Eastern Caribbean and both Barry Stancombe and Guy Opperman have conducted hearings for the Attorney-General of Turks and Caicos.

In 2010 the AFG consolidated its position by forging links with Mansfield Chambers in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Correspondence and enquiries may be directed there to our associate tenant Garvin Nicholas, who undertook pupillage at 3PB, and who now practices both from the Caribbean and the UK. He is a member of the Trinidad and Tobago bar and the Supreme Court of the Eastern Caribbean (Anguilla).

Enquiries may either be made direct to Garvin or to our clerks room in London:

Europe and beyond

3PB offers a wide range of international expertise, with a number of its members having joined foreign Bars or lawyers associations. Former clients have included governments, major corporations and banks. We can offer a full range of services, including counsel in international arbitrations.
Our members include Ian Edge, who is a specialist in commercial and private international law, with expertise in the civil and commercial laws of the Middle East (including the application of Islamic law) and Charlotte Hadfield, who became a member of the New York Bar in 2008.
