Academic Qualifications

James Davies has a broad civil practice ranging from contractual disputes to construction, appearing regularly in the County Court and advising in conference and in writing. He also represents clients in mediations and settlement negotiations. James has a particular interest in Chancery matters, especially professional negligence, property and Landlord & Tenant work. He is a member of the Property and Chancery Group.

James also undertakes criminal work, both prosecution and defence. James has appeared on behalf a number of local authorities on a range of issues, including benefit fraud and Education Act matters. He also appears at inquests.

Before coming to the Bar, James qualified as a Chartered Accountant. His professional practice included the audit of family owned companies (in particular construction businesses), and associated corporation tax work, and professional partnerships, including Solicitors’ Accounts Reports. James continues to remain up to date with industry developments.

James is a lecturer at Hertford College, University of Oxford where he teaches tort to undergraduates and postgraduates. James has recently delivered lectures to groups of solicitors on the new Companies Act and professional negligence.

In his free time James is a member of CAMRA, enjoys walking and DIY, although the last is more by necessity than choice.

James is a member of the Professional Negligence Bar Association.
