Areas of commercial work/litigation in which Barry Stancombe has recently been involved are as follows:
- advising a US manufacturer on all aspects of product liability for the sale/distribution of a weapons detection system in the jurisdiction
- acting for an investment company following the theft of substantial funds by an accounts employee and obtaining a freezing injunction
- a claim against a defendant employee in an action for breach of confidence, breaches of express/implied terms of her contract of employment in respect of an insurance broking business. Application made without notice, followed by a continuing injunction and an expedited trial
- acting for a Lloyd’s Guaranteeing broker in a claim against high street brokers under an indemnity/guarantee agreement
- a dispute over the breakdown of a distribution agreement
- acting for an employer in an intellectual property/breach of confidentiality dispute with a former employee
- sale of goods dispute
- a commission claim by a senior employee against his employer for substantial sums
- acting for a well know public relations company suing a foreign government for substantial fees; forum conveniens/contract construction issues
- defending professional negligence claims against architects
- acting for the Attorney General of the Turks & Caicos Government in civil proceedings.

Indicative Cases
National Bank of Abu Dhabi v Mohammed & Others NLP 21.03.97 CA – Appeal from deputy judge of the Chancery Division. Undue influence alleged by wife of debtor. Represented the Bank in successfully dismissing the claims/the appeal.
Emery v UCB Bank Plc 15.05.97 CA – Successful appeal against strike out order resulting in the reinstatement of the claim concerning the misconduct of a receivership of a nursing home. Instructed in CA only.
Barnes v Gilmartin Associates NLP 29.07.98 EAT – Unfair dismissal redundancy-requirement for part-time work displaced by requirement for full-time worker-what constituted work of a particular kind.
Ord v Belhaven Pubs Limited NLP 13.02.98 CA – Appeal from Judge in Chambers. Judge wrong to substitute the Defendant following the commercial re-structuring of the Belhaven group of companies. Plaintiff not entitled to lift the corporate veil so as to permit substitution.
Treadwell v Dawkins TLR/NLP 24.05.00 QBD – Company Director held personally liable for fraudulent misrepresentation as to the availability of finance for building development.
