Described as “Very Bright” and “rated highly by solicitors” in recent editions of the Legal 500. He has been specifically recommended for Health and Safety Law.
James has a niche practice representing food producers, in particular abattoir owners, defending criminal cases and appearing in applications under Section 9 Food Safety Act 1990. His cases have often appeared in the local and national press. James also prosecutes on behalf of local authorities in food related matters and he regularly advises on the effect of the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 and EC directives 852/2004, 853/2004.
In addition James frequently advises local authorities and individuals on the financial issues surrounding funding of care of the elderly and the recovery of assets alleged to have been disposed of in relation thereto.
After one prosecution on behalf of a local authority the authority’s solicitor wrote to James’ clerk “Thanks for giving me Mr Dawson for this job. He excelled and got us a good result. The witnesses were pleased, and I expect to come back to you in the future.”
James is also the author of the article Firearms Licensing in the 21st Century: New Law Journal, Volume 151 (Licensing - Human Rights Act 1988).
