Nigel Seed has a predominately criminal practice and is regularly instructed on the Western Circuit, in London and elsewhere across England and Wales.
He has specific experience in the following areas of work, both prosecuting and defending:
- Fraud cases: investment, postal, election, mortgage, overseas and all other cases of dishonesty including breaches of fiduciary and other duty
- Murder and attempts: representing individuals and multi-handed clients.
- Manslaughter: including diminished responsibility, provocation as well as manslaughter in its own right including Road Traffic and Health and Safety cases.
- Rape and Sexual Offences: these include offences relating to children as well as matters that are regarded as historical offences. Cases involving paedophilia and sadistic assaults have also been undertaken.
- Drugs: Importation and distribution as well as abuse and supply within the UK. Manufacture, cultivation and dealing with the proceeds.
- Public Order and regulatory offences including corruption and misfeasance as well as immigration charges.
- Arson: including the psychology and merit of the mental capability of those charged with the offence as well as the danger they pose to the public
Recent/Notable cases:
R v N & Others Prosecution of the largest postal fraud within the UK. Involving multiple parties that had taken funds for the distribution of mail, millions of items of which were not delivered but consigned to rubbish skips. Confiscation orders under the Proceeds of Crime were obtained following convictions.
R v K (a case in Singapore) Advising on a large scale fraud on church property in Singapore. S$5.2m
R v C & Others Defence of a juvenile charged with murder of an alleged paedophile in a family revenge attack.
R v G, B & B Manslaughter prosecution involving death of an infant through an overdose of methadone taken with knowledge of family members who blamed each other and allowed the child to die without medical intervention.
H v CPS Upholding in the High Court, the conviction of an anti-gay religious fanatic who caused public disorder in Bournemouth town centre and whose personal representatives maintained his appeal to the divisional court and to Strasbourg after his death.
R v I & Others Defence of member of adolescent paedophile/sexually perverted group that had been charged with sadistic and protracted sexual assaults on younger victims from the same school, the victims had been lured by “grooming” and had been threatened with and subjected to physical violence.
R v P Successful defence of client charged with kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment of ex-wife.
R v S & Others Prosecution of senior employees of a large health authority in South West of England regarding financial irregularities involving hundreds of thousands of pounds.
R v M & Others Election fraud prosecution in Lancashire involving allegations of expense irregularities of local party officials
R v W & another Investment fraud involving the misappropriation of large sums obtained from private investors for the ir pensions and other savings plans
R v E Prosecution involving gross negligence and Health and Safety brought over the death of a construction worker who was injured by a colleague in a fight and then left on a trunk road just off the M3 motorway. The worker then died when he was run over by a passing lorry that was never traced.
R v B Prosecution of Serial arsonist in Hampshire that damaged several properties including theatres as well as private dwellings, motor vehicles and a ship. Highly complicated and controversial psychiatric/psychological evidence relied on by both defence and prosecution.
R v G Prosecution of a city broker for appropriating in excess of £1m from a family member and a large public charitable institution, transferring it overseas for his use and running defence of duress involving the security services.
R v H, C & L Prosecution of a conspiracy to cause explosions with nail bombs on an indiscriminate basis in the west country
R v C, D, O, K & W Multi handed fraud on the MOD involving allegations against serving members of the MOD of obtaining works and improvements to their own properties at the expense of the tax payers and contractors producing bogus paper work in support.
