Mediation
Paul Newman is an experienced mediator and arbitrator. He was formerly a solicitor with Hugh James, Solicitors, Cardiff. His specialist fields are contentious (arbitration, litigation and adjudication) and non contentious construction law and property. He also deals with other contractual disputes and civil law generally. He originally qualified as a Barrister. Having completed pupillage, he practised at the Bar and then worked for a claims consultancy and two firms of solicitors. He returned to the Bar in October 2006.
He has dealt with both contentious (particularly civil engineering time and money claims) and non-contentious. His involvement in non-contentious work has included drafting contract amendments and preparation of bespoke contracts, collateral warranties, bonds and guarantees, consultancy appointments and general advice on procurement methods. He has acted in a number of arbitrations and have been regularly involved in the conduct of adjudications. He has sat as an adjudicator and as a mediator. As a mediator he has dealt with a range of property, construction, professional negligence and general contractual disputes.
He is a former member of the CEDR Construction Industry Working Group. Paul Newman is the author or co-author or contributor to nine books on construction law and dispute resolution (including mediation). He is a regular contributor to The Legal Executive, Arbitration, and Construction Law (of which he is also the book reviews editor). He lectures on construction law topics. In 1997 he won a Highly Commended Hudson Prize for Construction Law.
He is accredited as a mediator by the RIBA, the CIC and the ADR Group.
